El Paso Coyotes Lose Heartbreaker in Overtime Loss

El Paso, Texas.- The El Paso Coyotes were defeated in overtime 6 to 5 by the Baja Atletico in an action packed Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) game at the El Paso County Coliseum, in El Paso, Texas.

The Coyotes now fall to 0 - 14 as they continue to struggle to win their first Major Arena Soccer League game.

The Atletico scored the first goal of the game but were down 2 to 1 at halftime. Coyotes’ forward David Salas had the Coyotes’ first goal and continues to lead the Coyotes in total goals this season (14). Coyotes’ midfielder Christian Zamora made his pro Major Arena Soccer debut tonight and had his first goal at the end of the first quarter.

The Atletico then took the lead 3-1 in the third quarter, but the game was tied up at the end of the quarter behind a goal from Coyotes’ forward Daniel Frias. The Coyotes then took a 5-3 lead in the fourth quarter before the Atletico made a 2-0 comeback to tie the game at intermission. Atleticos’ forward Juan Carlos Castor made the last goal of the quarter to send the game into overtime. Atleticos’ super star midfielder Christian Gutierrez had 4 goals total for the game, including his 6th game winning goal of the season in overtime.

Saturday’s matchup was the third of four meetings between the two teams. The Atletico have won all three games this season against the Coyotes 14-9, 7-4, and 6-5 (O.T.) respectively.

The Coyotes next play against the San Diego Sockers at home on Friday, the 10th of February.
